Shoei Utsuda joined Mitsui & Co., Ltd. in 1967. After his return from his first multi-cultural experience at Dartmouth College in 1970, he was mainly engaged in the promotion of the electric machinery business and ICT business until he was appointed as a member of the board in 1997. Mr. Utsuda was promoted to President & CEO of Mitsui & Co., Ltd. in 2002 to tackle, reshape and rebuild the culture of the company and the mindset of its people, which was then suffering from painful compliance-related incidents. He is a strong believer in “Yoi shigoto” (good quality work), as the key driver to success in business.

In his personal time, Shoei Utsuda enjoys golf, tennis and scuba diving with his family.
